MikroTik tools (resources, interfaces, DHCP, queues, PPP, site blocking)
Monitor the router's CPU, memory and temperature from the panel, watch interface traffic, add DHCP leases, simple queues and PPP users, and block websites.
The Network group in the left menu has six tools for managing your router from the panel. All of them connect to the router through the VPN tunnel with the RouterOS API; on each screen you pick the device first. If the router is offline or the tunnel is down the screen shows a connection error: see Device problems.
Permanent changes on the router
DHCP, queue, PPP and site blocking actions change the router configuration directly. On an important
network take a RouterOS backup before changing anything (/system backup save).
Resource monitoring
Resource Monitoring: CPU Load, memory and disk use, Uptime, platform information and, if the hardware supports it, Temperature and Voltage. Models without support show "Device does not support this feature". If the CPU stays above 90% the device is too small for the number of guests.
Interfaces
Interfaces: the router's ethernet, wireless, bridge and tunnel interfaces. Click an interface to open Detail with a live RX (Download) / TX (Upload) chart and packet, error and drop counts. Growing error counts can point to a cable or port problem.
DHCP leases
DHCP Lease: the addresses handed out by the DHCP server (Dynamic and Static), with MAC, host name and expiry. Use Add Static Lease to give a device a fixed IP (printer, camera); enter the server, IP and MAC address.
Bandwidth queues
Bandwidth: the router's Simple Queue (Bandwidth) list. With Add New Queue you set a Max Upload (Mbit) / Max Download (Mbit) limit for an IP or subnet (for example a staff network).
Use speed profiles for guests
Do not add queues to limit individual guests; Speed profiles open a queue for every session over RADIUS. A broad queue added by hand can take precedence over guest queues and break their limits.
PPP / PPPoE users
PPP/PPPoE: the router's PPP secrets and Active PPP Sessions. With Add PPP User you add a PPPoE/L2TP user by entering a username, password, service and profile. These users are not guest logins and are not part of the 5651 guest records.
Site blocking
Block Sites: enter a domain or IP with Block Site. The panel adds three
firewall rules to the router: the TLS server name (SNI) for HTTPS, a content match for HTTP, and an IP
block through an address list (List Name, blocked-sites by default). Removing the
entry deletes these rules too.
Blocking is not complete: encrypted DNS, VPN apps and some apps using QUIC can bypass it. If you have a legal content filtering obligation, use a dedicated filtering solution.
